Broken trust

I have been a business owner in this community for many years and I am happy and willing to pay the PST providing the government uses the revenue as it was intended.

I have been a business owner in this community for many years and I am happy and willing to pay the PST providing the government uses the revenue as it was intended.

In a recent Morning Star, our MLA writes that the HST is good for the two major industries in our region. He was very right in that the corporations will pocket all of the new rebates and become richer. Mr. Foster claims they’ll purchase more and better equipment in their operations, hence create more jobs.

I believe this is totally false. Big business buys more equipment to improve their operations and eliminate jobs, not to create more employment. Just think of the faller-buncher in the forest industry and how many jobs that machine replaced.

The Liberal government uses our tax money and plenty of it to place ads in the media trying to persuade the voters to their favour. If the HST is so good for this province, why are they spending so much money trying to convince the voters? Furthermore, the referendum ballots were designed in such a way as to confuse the voters.

The HST is an unfair tax. When businesses and industries get all of their extra rebates in their coffers, then the rest of the consumers have to make up for this huge shortfall in revenue by paying tax on goods and services that weren’t taxed before the HST. This will create more working poor. I urge all of you voters. Think this through carefully. Please vote yes to kill this unfair tax.
