I loudly applaud Jennifer Smith for writing the article “Finding hope” in the Oct. 12 issue, stressing hope available to cancer survivors.
What an excellent, positive perspective. So well said and eloquently written!
I have met numerous cancer survivors over the years and in my church congregation, there are presently four women who have battled cancer and are survivors, as well as several men in the same category.
I have cut out the article and will personally give it to a friend of mine with a teenage child presently going through the early stages of the survival battle…one of the brave “soldiers.”
If I do have one slight constructive criticism regarding this article, and in keeping with my faith and calling, I believe there is an added resource available for many survivors to draw from.
That resource is having faith in a higher power and the strength, comfort and confidence that that faith provides.
For me and the women in my congregation, that faith is in the God who knows all about us and our individual situation and is able to bring healing, whether physical, spiritual, emotional and mental.
This assurance brings with it peace, strength, joy and most of all hope. I have witnessed these survivors mature in their faith in God and in their perspective on life and have seen them achieve personal triumph, as well as being an inspiration to many.
Again, thank you for an article so well written and giving hope to many, survivors and supporters alike.
