Two items caught my eye in a recent issue.
The first was the letter about outrageous salaries, the tenor of which I applaud and agree with. Unfortunately, this is just the tip of the iceberg when one really looks at the books of our government and our local council employees. Six-figure salaries for librarians, planners and accountants, the list goes on and this is even small communities like Vernon.
It’s no good saying this is because they have to pay to get good people. If they were good, private industry would have hired them. The goose will get killed eventually if it doesn’t die first.
The second thing was that Christy Clark has (quite rightly) shot down the proposal to charge more for medical coverage to smokers. Apart from the fact that they are a dying breed (excuse the pun), where would it end — more for drinkers, skiers, extreme sports people. The list is immense.
