Leave her alone

Re: Jennifer Smith’s recent column, “Forced MOMentum.”

Jennifer Smith, Richard Rolke and Roger Knox have all written columns about their struggles with depression, and I admire their courage in doing so.

As Patricia Harding’s recent article notes, mental illness still carries a strong stigma.

Jennifer Smith’s recent column, “Forced MOMentum” clearly shows her anguish over the decision to have another child, and her natural fears that she may fall prey to post-partum depression again.

This is powerful writing!

Her column deserves a wider audience, and I hope she considers submitting it to appropriate national magazines (with her editor’s encouragement).

More people need to read her story and her perspective.

And to those who are pressuring Jennifer, I say “Back Off!!”
