Letter: New museum building needed

After reading Rod Drennan’s letter to the editor in the Morning Star I decided to visit the museum.

Being somewhat handicapped, I found it very difficult to find parking close by and then found the handicap entrance locked, apparently due to lack of repairs.

After browsing through the museum and wondering what happened to the lovely displays in the area of the beautiful old post office clock, I decided to ask for a quick tour with one of the employees. I found the archives amazing but very crowded.

The exhibit displays seemed to be a bit mixed up and the story of Vernon’s .history didn’t flow well throughout the museum. What a wonderful argillite display, given by an old Vernonite, but rather hard to find amongst some things hanging from the ceiling and floor in what used to be a great display area of local artists’ work.

Fortunately, I went on a day when it was free admission. I think the Vernon museum is the only museum in the valley that is charging admission. The museum really does need a new building so it can take care of our community’s history for generations to come.
