In a recent letter to the editor I was not surprised to see a swipe at the employees of the City of Vernon.
The writer is upset that as a non-resident he was charged $16 to swim at the recreation centre, saying that “the City of Vernon, in its infinite wisdom, has once again shot themselves in the foot.”
Why not first ask the Village of Lumby if they have sufficiently contributed to the funding of the pool?
Perhaps query the Regional District of the North Okanagan how your village contributes to area projects.
Maybe even encourage your community to contribute more to the new Vernon recreation centre with a reciprocal benefit of receiving city resident pricing for recreation services.
I have little knowledge of the funding agreements within the North Okanagan but I have confidence in our city planners and council to set fair costs for use of services.
I ask that before criticizing our city that people make an effort to understand the situation and take a respectful tone.
City of Vernon planners and employees strive to the best of their abilities to service the city residents effectively and I am sure that regional interest are included to an extent.
Perhaps compare your Village of Lumby tax bill to a City of Vernon tax bill and you might find that it is more than a $16 difference.
Any thoughts on why that is?
