The picture on the front cover of a recent Morning Star is quaint and cute but I resent the inference that this is a more eco-friendly method of farming as opposed to mechanized or even industrial farming.
Mechanized and industrial farming are equally eco-friendly and certainly more people-friendly in that they keep our grocery store shelves filled.
Two horses and a 1907 plow are fine if you are only concerned about feeding yourself and your neighbour but there are 37 million more mouths out there to feed.
Even 10 million more horses and plows would be inadequate.
If we ever allowed environmentalism to push farming methods back into the 1800’s or to shut down our power plants and oil production, Canada would quickly be reduced to another Ethiopia or Sudan.
