My mother will be 101-years-old later this month. She was married in 1932 during the Depression. My father died in 2000 and her wedding rings became her touchstone and comfort. She never removed them.
Now her hands are bare.
She recently spent two months at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. At some point during her stay, the rings went missing. When I asked hospital staff about this, I was told, “This happens all of the time.” When I contacted the RCMP, I was told there was nothing they could do without video surveillance evidence.
So the rings are gone and my mother asks about them every day.
Please remember to remove valuables during hospital stays. And if there are not signs advising this, there should be.
