Shake up council

Maybe it’s time to dissolve Vernon council and start fresh.

Maybe it’s time to dissolve Vernon council and start fresh.

Better still, how about Scott Anderson and Akbal Mund change places? At least Anderson listens to the citizens he represents. I also think there should be a limit on how many terms a person can serve. That should solve the problems with some of the other councillors.

It bewilders me how so many poorly thought out plans get passed for development, or changes that get made in this city that are void of common sense.

Why is there a new ice sheet going in at Kal Tire Place to start with? We don’t have more pressing issues? The curling rink hosts world class tournaments. It looks like it was built before I was born.

I used to be a Kinsmen member and know most of the details of Kin Race Track. I suggested the city offer to purchase land for the Jockey Club near O’Keefe Ranch and compromise on some other issues.

If they could reach an agreement on Kin Race Track, why couldn’t they wait a year and build their very necessary, extra special ,expensive ice sheet and have all the parking they would ever need?

Whose brain child was it anyway to put it in the parking lot of the existing facility? Add more people and less parking. Isn’t that much the same as adding a basement suite in an apartment blocks underground parkade?

Someone is obviously going to say the new ice sheet needs to be in the parking lot to share the infrastructure. Really. You can’t put it along side in an L or T configuration? I guess someone wasn’t thinking when they build the first ice sheet were they? Now the fiasco starts with the Civic Arena.

We have the Performing Arts Centre and we have the Powerhouse Theatre. How about we use the arena for all of the things in between?

Penticton is a retirement community that harnessed summer tourism. They were smart enough to build the events centre. I guess we can rely on local industry, finance and Funtastic. Oh, we do have the Kekuli Bay campsite.

I hear people complain all of the time about what happens or does not in this city, but unless you are willing to stand up and push for change, then city council will continue to do as it pleases.

Kalamalka Lake Road is a perfect example.

Could you survive if your business was choked out for three months? How about using Commonage Road to drive to Kelowna for three months? Or you live in Winfield and someone thought it was a good idea to close both sides of the highway to do road work.
