Community made Together for Christmas dinner a success

Together for Christmas hosted its fourth Christmas dinner Dec. 25, 12.

Once again, this was an outstanding event, enjoyed by both the guests and volunteers.

The organizational skills of Angela and Maria Durfeld and their crafting group, Darlene Heaney in the kitchen and Dave and Rhodina Hobbs with all of the rest of the volunteers ensured a smooth flow for the afternoon.

The number of volunteers included those from two baking bees, three days of preparations leading up to Christmas Day, as well as Christmas Day and clean-up Dec. 27.

Our focus for this event is for anyone in need of a place to be on Christmas Day,  especially those that are alone or lonely.

This year, 263 meals were served to our guests.

Besides the main event of the Christmas turkey dinner with all the trimmings, our guests are entertained throughout the time the doors are open.

This entertainment is in the form of music provided as well as crafts being done prior to the serving of the meal.

This community event is very special, in that our guests are treated to a restaurant-type meal with the guests being waited upon. Most dinners of this type are primarily cafeteria style meals.

Thanks to The Morning Star and Richard Rolke, and to Kiss FM, word of this event is getting better known and attended

Thank you to all of the organizations, individuals and businesses that donated cash or merchandise, your donations ensured a very successful event.

We especially want to thank all of our volunteers for their generosity. Without each of you, we would not have been able to provide this even.

This community has once again shown the rest of the world what community spirit is all about, in its ability to gift back to our community.
