I support MP Mel Arnold’s challenge to the imposition of the GST on the carbon tax. Although this is just one of dozens of examples of double-decker taxation in our tax system, it certainly isn’t fair. I’m also alarmed at an estimated increase in GST revenues of 24 per cent over the next five years.
Remember when Brian Mulroney’s Progressive Conservative government introduced the GST in 1990, and then-finance minister Michael Wilson promised that it would be revenue neutral? How’s that going Mr Arnold?
