The best gift ever

A random act of kindness is a selfless act performed by a person

Christmas seems to have become such a commercial and stressful event. What gifts am I going to buy? Will they like it or not? Can I afford it?

Maybe the best gift we can give this year is a random act of kindness to someone, especially to someone you don’t know. The true spirit of Christmas is really about being kind to your fellow man, isn’t it? Isn’t being kind our best human attribute? When I was younger, I admired people that were witty or wealthy. Now I admire people that are kind.

A random act of kindness is a selfless act performed by a person or people wishing either to assist or to cheer up an individual person or people, without expecting repayment or recognition. It is the opportunity for good to dust off its shoulders and show evil that we are better, stronger, and much more numerous than it is. It is the opportunity for us to come together with others, to become a witness of happiness, to feel the love, to create a more beautiful world together.

No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. When someone is kind to you – and the most common sort of kindness is the small, seemingly insignificant sort – it lights up your world.

Some inexpensive and easy to accomplish random acts of =kindness are:

Smile from your heart at strangers.

Spend time with an elderly person.

Buy flowers for the woman in your office who’s having a rough time.

Be kind to someone you dislike.

Pay someone’s expired parking meter.

Visit someone in hospice care.

Cook a meal for someone who is sick, elderly, or just had a baby.

Buy a homeless person a coffee, or something to eat and sit with them while they enjoy it.

Not only will doing this make someone else feel good, it will make you feel good also. It’s funny how that works, isn’t it?

Cheers and Merry Christmas.
