Transit

Resident wants a resolution to transit challenges in Vernon

This letter is regarding Elsie Morrison getting stuck in the snow.

I wonder if some elderly person really getting hurt will wake up the bus company and the Village Green Centre owners that they have to accommodate the elderly people of Vernon?

Not every elderly person can afford to drive a car so the bus is their next mode of transportation.

The Orchard Park shopping centre in Kelowna allows the buses to come into the mall right at one of the entrances.

So if they can get the buses to people in that mall, why can’t this bus company duo in Vernon the same?

I wonder if the bus drivers told the bus company it’s too crowded in the mall?

The drivers do not drive a full size bus like they do in Kelowna so there is no excuse that the bus is too big.

The drivers could pull up to the food court side of the mall and then drop the elderly people off.

The mall owners might have to accommodate a bigger area for the buses to turn around and get back on to their route.

Since the elderly population is only going get bigger until there is going to be more elderly people more than 60 years of age than young people that are 15 years of age.

So us old folks are not going disappear over night.

According to our federal government, it’s going to last until the year 2045.

So wake up bus company and Village Green Centre owners and work this small problem you have created out before somebody really gets hurt.
