Good Samaritans' efforts to help less fortunate literally goes in the trash

I witnessed my pay it forward efforts go literally into a garbage can when I provided a man begging in front of a coffee shop.

I provided him with a coffee and a muffin.

As I drove away, I saw him put both into the garbage can. Quite put out, I re-entered the parking lot and observed the man occasionally get money deposited into his hat but on three more occasions of donations of coffee and something to eat, as soon as the Good Samaritan was gone, he threw the goods into the garbage can.

He obviously just wants the cash. I think the next time I will just offer to buy someone a coffee inside the coffee shop.
