VERNON LETTER: Warming not a natural cycle

Brian does make mention of a couple of accurate facts but these don't alter the fact the current warming is due to human activity

I almost feel sorry for Brian Sutch.

He wrote to you to complain that you'd print a letter that likely demonstrated some understanding of climate science and then showed us he doesn't know the first thing about it.

He's one of the last few people holding onto the myth that the current warming is a "natural cycle."

Of course, if he could only point out what no scientist has found, a source for a warming cycle, he could perhaps save us all some bother.

I would say, "I'll wait," but we really can't afford to wait for people like Brian, who show such indifference to scientific understanding, to realize they're wrong.

Brian says we've been going through warming cycles every 450 to 500 years for thousands of years and yet there are no reconstructions showing this including ones that take us back 22,000 years.

Brian does make mention of a couple of accurate facts but these don't alter the fact the current warming is due to human activity.

And finally, he asks about why there were tropical forests on the land that is currently the Yukon and Northwest Territories.

The reason for that is easily found if you search the web competently, but the basic answer is it was tens of millions of years ago, the land was further south (plate tectonics) and, most importantly, CO2 levels were far higher.

Now it's us increasing CO2.
