Re: New BX Trail

F. Davidson expressed legitimate concerns about the new Upper BX Creek Trail (Spanky’s Trail) being shared with mountain bikers whipping downhill on the narrow, winding trail and hikers.

A group of us senior women hiked this spectacular montane wilderness trail from the top off Silver Star Road down to Forsberg Road on a Friday in September.

Some of us slipped and fell on some deteriorated parts. We kept our ears perked for bike riders coming down, but thankfully only one small group of bikers met us at the trail’s bridge.

We enjoyed the trail so much that the following Friday we hiked from Forsberg up the trail for an hour then turned back. We enjoyed the scenery on this hike. It was marvelous!

Notes to mountain bikers:

• Please ride with extreme caution.
• Use a bell or horn before corners to alert hikers and wildlife.

Notes to hikers:

• Go on a weekday morning
• Hiking uphill from Forsberg gives impressive views of the wilderness and helps to see bikers coming down.

Enjoy!
