It was a $600 wild pitch.

Andre’s Electronics from Kelowna took advantage of a ball that eluded the catcher to score the winning run in the top of the last inning, then held on in the bottom to beat the Surrey Rebels 3-2 in the final of the eight-team Six Mile Raiders men’s fastpitch softball tournament at Pebble Park on Westside Road on the weekend.

The victory was worth $1,800 for Andre’s while the Rebels pocketed $1,200 for second place.

Andre’s catcher Dean Hide was the tournament’s most valuable player while the Rebels’ Reilly Single was named top pitcher.

The Fraser Canyon Warriors of Chilliwack-Boston Bar finished third, collecting the only other prize money award, $600. The Warriors knocked out the host Raiders 8-7 Sunday morning.

Six Mile, which finished fifth, began the tournament with an 8-0 win over Seqwyits from Neskonlith, in the Shuswap, before losing 5-4 in an A-side semifinal Saturday to Andre’s.

“We had our chances in that game,” said Shane Miller, tournament organizer, from the Raiders. “We were down three runs, came back, had the bases loaded in the last inning but couldn’t get the tying run.”

The Vernon-Vancouver entry, High Road , ended up fourth.

Surrey was awarded a bye into the modified double knockout final after Andre’s was unable to field a team for the Sunday morning, 10:30 draw. The Rebels started 2-0 before falling in the championship.

The Raiders would like to say a heartfelt thank you to Tim Jack, Pat Wilson and Gord and Bonnie GreyOwl for all of their help with the weekend tournament.
