Angels fall 9-7 to Acers

The Vernon Royal Canadian Legion #25 Angels fell behind early and couldn’t catch up, falling 9-7 to the host Salmon Arm Acers in Midget girls fastball action Tuesday night at Klahani Park.

The Angels, coached by Dave Munk, got first-inning doubles by Allie Crandlemire and Shelby Munk, with Munk crossing the plate. The Acers led 3-1 after one inning.

In the second inning, Dallyce Edwards cranked an RBI-single to bring in Keara Crandlemire, and then scored along with sisters Lexie and Dallyce Edwards and Daina Bader.

Salmon Arm scored once as Munk had two strikeouts and Lexie Edwards caught a fly ball in left field to retire the side.

The Acers retook the lead with three runs in the third inning, and one in the fourth. Vernon was unable to score despite a nice single up the middle by Brianna Leon. On defence, shortstop Stefani Anderson sparked a double play, throwing to Allie Crandlemire for an out at first. Crandlemire relayed to Mikayla Head for the out at home plate.

Dallyce Edwards scored once and fanned two batters in the fifth inning, while Bader also scored and caught a pop-up for the final Acer out. Dayna Hanley cracked a triple at the top of the sixth, but no more runs were scored.

In Bantam girls play at Grahame Park, the Vernon Army and Navy Spitfires shot down the Kelowna Howlers 14-13.

Bailey Williamson earned the win, with Alabama Chevrier coming on in relief.

Sydnee Hughes went 3-for-3, including a three-run dinger, and Amy Potts drove in four runs on two hits. Robyn Rolke, Bailey Williamson, Shayle Routley and Landrey Bickel each scored twice, with Bickel recording the winning run.

The Vernon Caufields Engraving Panthers ran into some tough pitching in a 15-4 Squirt loss to the  Westside Outlaws Monday at Grahame.

Emily Christian had a hit, Alyssa LeMaitre struck out one batter and scored a run, as did Asia Graham, Emma Lochhead and Jewel Jensen.
