Emery Bardock has a basic strategy for winning the Spallumcheen Ladies Open.

Play a simple, error-free game, have mom, Barbara, carry her bag and walk away with the tournament title.

It worked for a second straight year Wednesday as the 22-year-old shot 75 to edge Jessica Claggett of Two Eagles in West Kelowna by three strokes.

Bardock, who played one year of university golf with the SFU Clan, just graduated from Camosun College in Victoria with a diploma in golf management and an advance diploma in golf operations.

“I was hitting the ball well and my putting was good,” said Bardock, who posted nines of 38 and 37. “I was hitting a lot of greens so when I wasn’t making birdies, I was tapping in pars.”

Bardock, who works at Canoe Creek Golf Course in Salmon Arm and Strictly Golf in Vernon, plans to travel to Europe in the fall, hopeful of golfing in Ireland.

There was a field of 89 on a sunny Spall day with Maureen Turner of Predator Ridge third overall at 83. Neva Gigliuk of Spall was fourth at 87 and Deb Stenerson of Spall fifth with 88.

Marg Wild of Spall ruled the fourth flight with 102, while Bonnie Taylor of Spall took second low gross in the third flight with 98. Clubmate Janie Crockett was second low gross in the fourth flight at 104.

Marsha Allen of Spall was third low gross in the second flight at 95, while clubmates Marj Griffin (98) and Terry Logan (109) were third in the last two flights.

Sue Martin of Shuswap Lake Estates won the low net title at 68.

Low net flight winners were Linda Gronsdahl of Kelowna at 71, Gloria Morgan of Spall at 73 and Vaness Smith of Revelstoke with 74.

Runner-up spots went to June Klarenbeek of Sunset Ranch in Kelowna with 69 and Spall golfers Cindy Hoffman at 73, Helen Jagow at 74 and Gloria Regier at 76.

* Braeden Cooper of Vernon has earned a paid entry into the Vancouver Golf Tour’s Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour Open Saturday, June 11 at Burnaby Golf Club

Cooper, 15, was runner-up in the Juvenile Boys Division with 39-75-114 in the rain shortended tournament at Swan-e-set Bay Resort in Pitt Meadows.

Andy Jang, 15, of Langley Redwoods Golf Club won the tourney and Juvenile title at 38-75-113. Jang and Cooper will play for free at the Tour stop in Burnaby.

Heavy rain on Saturday caused the opening round to be shortened to nine holes, however great weather on Sunday allowed for a fine finish with players qualifying for various high level tournaments and three coming close to winning a 2016 Ford Focus SE in a hole-in-one contest sponsored by Ford of Canada and West Coast Ford Lincoln.

“My short game saved my errant tee shots,” said Jang. “Cooper was coming in hot, but my putting stopped him. I feel great because this is my first win of the season.”

Third place went to Mitchell Catania, 16, of North Vancouver (43-76-119).

* After two rounds of the 2016 British Columbia Golf Men’s & Women’s Mid-Amateur/Mid-Masters Championships, Victoria’s Alison Murdoch and Kevin Carrigan held respective leads heading into today’s final round.

Former Vernonite Jackie Little, now of Port Alberni, did not play in the tournament due to injury. Little has won numerous provincial and national titles.

Murdoch was scheduled to play in the final group with her two closest pursuers, Shelly Stouffer of Nanoose Bay and Christina Proteau of Port Alberni, just two and three shots behind.

“They are much more capable of seriously low scores than I am,” Murdoch said of Proteau and Stouffer. “But I wouldn’t mind playing in the last group tomorrow, go out there and whack away and see what I can do.”
