After just two years of fencing, Jake Bennett has two provincial gold medals around his neck.

Bennett repeated as champion in the Y12 épée event held at the Olympic Oval in Richmond last weekend.

Bennett, who is coached by both Brendan Robertson of the School District Fencing Club and Matt Clarke of Okanagan Freestyle Fencing, beat Ketki Ketkar of Seattle for the gold. Teammate Chris Vermeulen captured the bronze.

In the Junior event, recent Kal grad David Enns lost by one point in the final to take silver while his schoolmate Chris Dlouhy also came home with silver in the Cadet category.

Miguel Lefevre and Keara Govender both won bronze medals for their performances in the Y14 events.

In the senior men’s épée class, Clarke, coming off of a superb showing at the nationals where he placed seventh, ended his season with a ninth.

Robertson finished 15th and also managed to win a silver medal in the veterans division.
