Blues tie up Buckaroos

Kaiden Sherwood took a long pass from Madison Bergman for United’s first goal, while Brooklyn Kineshanko delivered a sweet cross for Mya Robinson’s tally. Olivia Collins unleashed a great shot on net, while fullbacks Paige Maleska, Nadia Nelson-Shaw and Kendra Grant played it tough and Ashleigh Mulholland showed great play-making skills

The United U11 Strikers were caught short handed in Kelowna with no subs but gutted out a 1-1 draw with Shuswap and grounded Kelowna 5-2.

Kristen Francks provided the goal against Shuswap when her shot took a fortuitous bounce and fooled the keeper. Shuswap tied things moments later. Sadie Christensen and Amy Curtis did an outstanding job in net, while Makenna Hamilton-Jackson was spectacular on defence/

Sophia Bilodeau opened the scoring against Kelowna with a 25-yard blast that bounced in off the post. Francks made it 2-0 after running on to a Jessica Bond goal kick.

Francks then beat the keeper with a nice chip before Kelowna answered. Abby Lawlor played a deep ball from the kick-off and Francks collected it and beat the keeper again. The two girls combined again to make it 4-1.

Kelowna got one more, but Francks responded again after redirecting a Bond free kick.

“The girls plays so well in the heat and considering we had no subs it was a great effort”, said Striker assistant coach Brent Bond. “We were really impressed by their smart play and passing.”

In other U11 play, the Kamloops Scorchers bounced the Vernon Blasters 3-1.

The Blasters came out firing to start the match, with several scoring opportunities coming off great plays by Joelle Kohtala and Jordyn Clarke. Kamloops scored midway through the half. Aimee Skinner deposited a great feed from defensive stalwart Caryss Hill to tie the game.

The Kelowna Sun iced the Blasters 4-0 in Game 2.

Despite heroic efforts from Skinner, Macy Blades, Hill, Jesse Mitchell and Paige Cover, fatigued quickly set in on the Blasters against a very skilled and deep Kelowna squad.
