It was a top-five finish for a pair of Lincoln Lanes bowlers at the Youth Bowling Council (YBC) national finals in Calgary.

Sierra Merry of Salmon Arm and Lavington’s Lily Fiset, the B.C. champions in bantam girls doubles, placed fifth overall in the event.

The duo bowled against each province twice, receiving a point for each win and half-a-point for a tie.

Merry and Fiset, coached by Vernon’s Peggy Hoggard, bowled five games on opening day and won one point, ending the day in a three-way tie for sixth place.

On day two, the girls played nine games, winning five points and finished in fifth overall.

Merry averaged 175 and Fiset 141 over the 14-games of this event.

Quebec won gold, Alberta took silver and Southern Ontario finished third.

On the last day, the girls teamed up with the bantam boys doubles team from Abbotsford to represent B.C. in a three-game scratch event.

Four teams from the west and four from the east vied for the top-two spots in each division to go into the round robin for the medals.

The B.C. team ended up in third place for the West, 60 points behind second-place Manitoba.

Merry averaged 170 and Fiset 144.
