Ella Brown is making a great first impression.
The 18-year-old Pleasant Valley Secondary School grad from Armstrong, now a freshman at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, won the triple jump at the UBC Open in Vancouver on the weekend.
It was SFU’s first outdoor meet of the season, and Brown’s victory – she won with a personal best jump of 11.57 metres – automatically qualifies her for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) championships May 9-10 in Oregon (SFU competes in NCAA Div. 2).
“Ella’s best last year was 11.46, so to start the outdoor season with a personal best and no faults in six jumps is a great way to begin,” said Ian Cameron, Brown’s coach for six years with the Vernon Triple A Track and Field Club.
Brown also had leaps of 11.32, 11.35, 11.35, 11.37, and 11.50 at the UBC Open.
