The veteran keeper for the Okanagan Spring Camels came up with a couple of huge saves to backstop the humpbacks to a 3-0 season-opening win over the Big O Tire/Turn-Key Controls Ogopogos in Okanagan Men’s 45-plus Soccer League action Monday at MacDonald Park.

Dutcher’s best save came off a Henry Czerwonka rocket volley from 15-yards out with Dutcher diving to his right and getting his hand on the blast, tipping it off the cross bar.

Rob Hulstein scored the only goal the Camels would need in the first half, finishing off a four-way passing play after taking a feed from Gord Howard.

Rick Raber made it 2-0 before the break after taking a Brian Williamson throw-in, outracing the defenders and beating keeper Paul Hunter.

Raber then fed Chris Odermatt for the third Okanagan Spring goal midway through the second half.

Rookie Bryan Schenker, making his first appearance for Big O/Turn-Key, showed lots of promise, just missing on a few rushes to the Camels net. Also in his rookie appearance, Duane Dennis showed his talent making moves and passes creating chances.

Big O/Turn-Key backliners Sean Weibe (rookie) and Sean Chippendale played with grit and confidence.

The other all-Vernon 45+ derby saw Vernon Liquor Store Silver Stars blank Bosman Accounting 4-0 on goals from Paul McArdle, Dave Howe, John Matejka and the freshly tanned Rick (Pedro) Danyluk. Ted Lurkins picked up the shutout.

Bosman keeper Yogi Kongsdorf stopped a pair of penalty kicks.

Elsewhere, North Country Appraisals got a late goal from Matt Cherrille, who finished off a nice pass from Steve Frost, in a 1-0 win over Kelowna Cantinas.

Browns Benefits pounded Pushor Mitchell 8-1 at the bumpy Parkinson Field pitch in Kelowna.

Browns led 3-0 at the break.

Darryl Hazell and Jim Kruiper had two goals each for the winners, singles going to Larry Kinakin, Don Brown, Max Hoogveld and Steve Nader.

Marty Khan replied for Pushor Mitchell.

In men’s 35+ league action, Kal Tire FC thumped Select Your Tickets 10-0.

Jesse Knight tried to win the league scoring title on opening night, collecting six goals. Geoff Straight, Darren Nobrega, Kriss Yargeau and Ryan Sharp also scored to support Iain Butler’s shutout.
