The Vernon Canadians swept the Rutland Rockies in a Mosquito A minor baseball tripleheader last weekend.

The Canadians opened by outlasting the host Rockies 14-13 at Edith Gay Park in Rutland Saturday morning.

The first inning saw the Canadians reach their four-run max. On the field, catcher Chase Batchelor and third baseman Ryan Gamage executed a hot box to out a runner.

Vernon’s Caden Colmorgen continued his solid pitching, throwing three strikeouts in the second. Eric Foufoulas worked the third and fourth innings, fanning two and adding an RBI of his own at bat.

Carter Morris ignited the Canadian attack in the fourth innning with an RBI double, followed by an RBI single by Colmorgen.

Strong in-fielding by Batchelor and Kamrin Lubbers, combined with solid pitching by Gamage and Morris, kept the Rockies at bay.

In their afternoon game in Rutland, Maguire Lauridsen cranked a first-inning home run as Vernon crushed Rutland 13-5.

Lauridsen added two ribbies in the second, followed by doubles in the fourth and fifth to lead the Canucks at the plate.

Batchelor’s two-base bunt brought home Gamage, and an RBI by Eric Noren saw Foufoulas cross the plate.

Morris showed a smart glove with a pop-fly tag at first base for a double out, and a great outfield catch by Foufoulas kept the Canadians ahead.

Vernon completed the sweep with a 7-5 win Sunday morning at Lakeview Park.

Lauridsen stole the show, throwing a pair of strikeouts in the first, and chalking up another homer.

He continued his tear in the second with a nice throw for an out at first, followed by two more strikeouts and an over-the-fence double RBI to bring Tyler Sedlacek across the plate.

The Stevie Schols and Batchelor provided solid pitching relief in the fourth and fifth innings, while Lauridsen’s single in the fifth, followed by some great base stealing, helped clinch the win.
