The Chick Kickers grounded TED United 4-2 in North Okanagan Women’s Soccer Association Masters Division play Tuesday night at Salmon Arm Savings & Credit Union Sports Field.

United came out hard and aggressive in the first 15 minutes but the Kickers’ defensive wall, anchored by Steph Curtis, held tight.

At 10 minutes, on a quick counter attack, Mel Jacobs converted after receiving a sweet through ball from Jenny Garnett. Just 10 minutes later and against the run of play, Garnett sent a fleet -footed Dawn Ansdell through and she picked the far left corner.

TED managed to squeek a ball past goalie Robyn Sherwood on a penalty caused by a hand ball in the box in the final seconds of the half.

Michelle Loxam collected a loose ball at centre, and with sheer determination and strength, moved the ball forward to Tania Sladen, who then fired a laser pass to Mel Jacobs, who finished with a flip shot.

Sladen figured in the fourth goal again with a great pass to Kemper, who fired a missile top cheddar. With plenty of time left, TED pushed back and scored on a great long shot over Sherwood’s head, but minutes later Sherwood robbed  a TED forward, who was in alone, with a right-hand save that left both teams in awe.

The Shuswap Merlot shut out the Controllers 3-0 in other Masters Division play.

Player of the Match Martina Allen used her speed and long legs to shut down Merlot’s kicks and runs up the side line, and hustled back to clear dangerous loose balls in front of the net.

Jacquie Nuyens, Shelley Henry, Angela Durfeld and Jessi Bicknell worked together to create give-and-goes and had several fast-break opportunities in Salmon Arm.

Shawn Yargeau and Jodi Peshko were strong as centre midfielders and recorded some lovely shots from outside the 18. Elena Sookarow was busy as right mid, interfering Merlot’s fast plays up the side.

Brandie Hunter, Michele Wernicke and Val Percy were stellar defensively, clearing long balls from the Merlot’s speedy forwards. Keeper Michelle Embleton was solid.
