Cooper defends crown

Shelley Cooper repeats as Ladies Club champion last weekend at the Spallumcheen Golf & Country Club.

Shelley Cooper won a 2013 range pass and a decent credit in the pro shop after repeating as Ladies Club champion last weekend at the Spallumcheen Golf & Country Club.

A longtime member at Spall, Cooper carded rounds of 79-82 for a 161 low gross total. She defeated Mary Lukacs by four shots.

“I was just steady,” said Cooper. “I had a good round Saturday and had a few more strokes Sunday.”

Mabel Hamilton took the overall low net title at 128, claiming the same prize package as Cooper.

Marsha Allen at 172 and Diane Hill at 177 rounded out the top-three low gross finishers in the first flight. There was a field of 55.

Sheryll Bissell at 180, Brenda Howard at 181 and Bonnie Taylor at 183 topped low gross in the second flight, while Marion O’Flynn and Debbie Heale, both at 192, and Nadene Shannon at 195, ruled the third flight.

Janie Crockett at 202 and Chris Panasiuk and Cheryl Parker, both at 203, topped the fourth flight low gross.

Best low net scores in the first flight came from Cindy Hoffman at 140, Carolyn Berube with 144 and Ginger Jalonen at 145.

In the second flight, it was Gloria Regier and Linda Bridgeman, both at 138, and Tori Reid at 142. The third flight low net winners were Sylvia Tyldesley-Gore at 139, Marg Wild at 140 and Kathryn Patton at 141.

Helen Beatty at 141, Elaine Evans with 144 and Celine Lockhart at 146 were the low net winners in the fourth flight.

Weekend long drives were recorded by Tara Brown (2), Bissell (2), Pam Page, Evans, O’Flynn and Parker.

Closest-to-the-pin prizes went to Laurie Arthur Kay Cornish, Tyldesley-Gore, Hill, Mabel Hamilton, Marg Wild and Parker.

Hamilton fashioned an 84 Sunday to win the Super Seniors (65+) crown by three strokes over Jalonen and five up on Shirley White.

Bridgeman won the low net title at 65, followed by Regier, Tyldesley-Gore and Beatty, all at 70, and Berube and Crockett at 71.

O’Flynn took the second flight low gross at 94, five shots ahead of Barb Logan.

Janan Tidball won low gross in the third flight at 99, three strokes up on Kathryn Patton.

Long drives were recorded by Diane Oakden, Edel Venus and Lockert, while KPS went to White, Venus and Alice Rowland.
