Crowe collects Callaway cash

Vernon’s Jesse Crowe carded a 69 to win the Callaway Interior PGA Pro Am Tuesday at The Okanagan Golf Club (Quail Course).

Crowe, now a teaching pro at the Salmon Arm Golf & Country Club, pocketed $1,000. He posted five birdies and took a pair of deuce skins for another $70.

Crowe’s pro-am team of Wes Mooey of Penticton, and Ian and Elaine Montgomery of Black Mountain, finished second, winning Callaway puttters.

Brian McDonald of Fairview Mountain in Oliver was second in the pro dvision, at 70, good for $825.

There were five players in at 72: Jon Kadin of Gallagher’s Canyon, Dean Claggett of Two Eagles, Miles Palahniuk of Sunset Ranch and (all of Kelowna), Jamie Stevens of the Kelowna Golf & CC and Ian Henson of Tobiano near Kamloops. They each earned $520.

Rob Tadey of Fairview Mountain shot 73 to finish eighth and claim $325. Brodie Carle of Predator Ridge took home $142 for 12th, at 76.

Kozak claims Athlete of the Week

Conner Kozak of the UBC Thunderbirds and Georgia Gwinnett’s Sloan Strickland are the Association of Independent Institutions (AII)  Male Athletes of the Week for April 28-May 5.

Kozak, a Seaton Sonics’ grad, captured individual medalist honors at the AII Conference Championships and helped the Thunderbirds claim their first AII banner since 2011.

The junior went 3-under par on the final two holes of the event to vault into first place with a final score of 1-under 215 (70-75-70).

Kozak and the Thunderbirds advance to the NAIA National Championships, starting Tuesday, in Daytona Beach, Fla.
