Dodds an all-star

Rookie forward Kirsten Dodds of Vernon is one of five UBC Okanagan Heat players named to the Pacific Western Athletic Association women’s soccer all-star teams.

The UBCO men’s squad placed two players on the all-star team for the first time since 2001-02.

Dodds, who has scored six goals for the Heat, joined fellow freshman Hayley Carlson of Red Deer, a defender, on the second team.

Heat head coach Claire Paterson loves Dodds’ skill set.

“We lost an All-Canadian from last season, but still sit atop the league standings; you do this by recruiting players of Kirsten’s calibre,” said Paterson.

“She brings with her a fantastic set of feet that will lose multiple defenders with the way she can dangle the ball. Kirsten’s nose for the goal has been evident very early in her career as she has six goals in just 11 games played.”

Dodds will receive her award before the first-place Heat (8-1-2) battle the winner of Kwantlen Eagles-Vancouver Island Mariners in semifinal playoff action Saturday (10:30 a.m.) at Nonis Field.
