The B.C. Hockey League champion Coquitlam Express open the Crescent Energy Western Canada Cup Sunday afternoon versus the Alberta champion Spruce Grove Saints in Dauphin, Man.

The Express meet the Manitoba champion Winnipeg Blues Monday night in the five-team Junior A tournament. The top two teams advance to the Royal Bank Cup, May 10-18, in Vernon.

Dauphin native Barry Trotz, who spends his summers in Vernon, will act as the honourary co-chair of the westerns.

Trotz is the longest tenured coach in the NHL and, until recently, the only coach in Nashville Predators franchise history. He began his coaching career in 1984 as an assistant with the University of Manitoba and served two seasons (1985-87) as the head coach/GM of the Dauphin Kings.
