Play in a B.C. Hockey League game Saturday at Kal Tire Arena was delayed due to teddy bears.

Hundreds of stuffies came out of the stands and onto the ice after Vernon Vipers forward Niko Karamanis scored a powerplay goal with two seconds left in the first period against the Penticton Vees.

It was the Vipers’ annual Teddy Bear Toss game, where fans are encouraged to bring a stuffed animal or toy and throw it onto the ice after the first Vernon goal. The stuffies go to Vernon radio station Kiss-FM’s Santa Toy Club charity.

It was the second year in a row Karamanis scored the Teddy Bear Toss goal.

The Vipers shut out the Vees 4-0, snapping Penticton’s 13-game unbeaten streak.

The North Okanangan Knights also saw a flurry of fur on their Armstrong rink Friday: see story here.
