Female hockey draws regional talent

The players are from Salmon Arm, Sorrento, Armstrong, Vernon, Lumby and Oyama and they opened the preseason with a win and a draw in a home-and-home with Kelowna last weekend.

After clipping Kelowna 2-1 at Nor-Val Sports Centre in Armstrong, the two teams skated to a 3-3 draw Sunday at the Capital News Centre.

Goals for the Salmon Arm crew Saturday came from Hailey Haskell at 9:31 of the first period, with assists going to Lannie Houle and Taylor Lund. Hayley Silcocks got the second unassisted goal, with 3:22 left in the second period.

On Sunday, Salmon Arm’s first goal was scored by Sarah Botter at 13:05 of the first period, with the assist going to Lund. The second goal came in the second period from Ali Roine at 11:10, assisted by Mykaila Head.

The final goal also came in the second period by Houle from Botter.

The girls host Kamloops Saturday (11:15 a.m.) at the Sunwave Centre.
