The Thompson Okanagan Lakers took five of a possible six points from the Fraser Valley Rush in B.C. Midget Female AAA Hockey League action in Vernon.

The Lakers, who opened the season with back-to-back road weekends where they went 2-4, rattled the Rush 6-1 Friday night at Priest Valley Arena with veteran Jenna Fletcher of Vernon and rookie Chanreet Bassi of Winfield each scoring twice.

The Lakers opened up the home stand Friday at Priest Valley with a 6-1 win led by veteran Jenna Fletcher of Vernon (2G) and rookie Chanreet Bassi of Winfield (2G).

The Lakers edged the Rush 4-2 Saturday with Mairyn Tucker (Armstrong) on the forecheck creating a turnover behind the goal line and feeding Cassidy Stasiuk (Kamloops) in front for the game winner. Bassi added an empty netter.

Ashlyn Sunderman (Kamloops) got the first Laker marker with the redirection of a Sydney Neustaeter (Winfield) shot from the point.  The Lakers tied things with 4:27 remaining in the third when Bassi tipped home a shot from Lyndsy Acheson (Summerland).

The teams battled to a 1-1 draw Sunday with the Lakers (4-4-1) registering 46 shots but only Fletcher could beat Rosetta Maggio when she walked out of the corner and slid the puck in on the far side deke. Fletcher leads the league with six goals and nine points.

Danielle Strymecki (Kelowna) faced 16 shots in net for the Lakers. Strymecki played all three games and was backed up by Taylor Thomlinson (emergency callup from Salmon Arm Midget A Silverbacks).

Lakers regulars Samantha Head (Vernon) and Jackie Leone (Winfield) were sidelined by injury and were replaced by Chelsea Henderson (West Kelowna/Penticton Female A) and Ava Wutke (Salmon Arm Female A). The Rush dipped to 1-5-3.

The Lakers are coached by Sylvain Leone of Winfield and Corey Stasiuk of Kamloops.
