Fever make pitch for nationals

Okanagan Fever ready for Canadian National SPN Co-Ed D Slo-Pitch Championships, starting Friday in Langley.

The Okanagan Fever open play Friday in the Canadian National SPN Co-Ed D Slo-Pitch Championships in Langley, hoping to better their fourth-place showing in 2011.

Head coach Heather Savitsky says the Fever are primed for the 13-team tournament.

“We have been busy preparing for the last five weeks, even entering a tournament in Kelowna the weekend of July 7-8 to get ready for this year’s nationals,” said Savitsky.

The Fever take on defending champion Amp’t of Alberta Friday at noon before meeting President’s Choice of Ontario at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, the Fever play Da Bulls of B.C., a team they have faced several times over the years. The Fever finish round-robin action at 3 p.m. against Who Dat of Calgary.

The double-knockout playoff round starts Sunday morning.

“We have a very strong team going and are looking towards a great tournament,” said Savitsky, a huge New York Mets’ fan.

Vernon team members are: Kelli Graham, Cortnay Solmes, Taryn Robertson, Courtney Bissell, Brandie Hunter, Jessica Hallem, Brandon Solmes, Braden Robertson, Mike Burke, Todd Doyle and Don Hunter.
