The Fulton Maroons stopped the Seycove Seyhawks of North Vancouver 43-12 in the B.C. Senior AA Tier 2 Boys Rugby Championships bronze-medal final Saturday in Abbotsford.

The Okanagan champion Maroons, who finished the season at 11-3, got tries from Jeff Han, Hunter Krieger, Cole Hunter, JJ Heaton, Greg Geistlinger, Ike Olson and Kyle Karens. Han went 4-for-7 0n conversions.

“This was a great win for our kids,” said Fulton head coach Mike Scheller assisted by Gord Cheyne and Ben Olson “They played their best game of the season in their last game of the season to win the bronze medal. We came out aggressive and firing on all cylinders to start this contest. Seycove did not touch the ball until 10 minutes into the game. We did a great job of securing our own possession of the ball, and we attacked the entire game. It truly was our most dominating effort of the year against a decent seycove team.

“Hunter Krieger had an exceptional tourney and was a force in the final game. He was everywhere. Lock Geistlinger also played tough all tourney and had some nice attacking runs. Ike Olson played great and was a tackling machine for us. It really was a great team effort. Jeff Han did a fantastic job of directing our attack. Yano Jannssens continued his unsung role of relentless tackling and rucking.”

The No. 1 Glenlyon Norfolk Gryphons of Victoria iced the LV Rogers Bombers 17-12 for the gold medal.

Fulton captain Christian Harpe was named to the Commissioners 15 team.

“Harpe is a great kid who lives and breathes rugby,” said Scheller. “He has been a leader of this group of kids since Grade 9 and plays his guts out every game for the Maroons. he was very deserving of this award and he has a bright future in the game.”

Fulton graduates half of its 22-man roster for 2018, but Scheller will welcome a great group of Grade 11s and some solid Grade 10s.
