There will be scores of athletes in the 55+ B.C. Games in Vernon and organizers want to hear from you soon.

Vernon hosts the extravaganza, once known as the B.C. Seniors Games, Sept. 12-16. The motto is ‘Where It All Began’ since Vernon held the first Games in June, 1988. There were 650 participants competing in 16 sports with May Taylor chairing the host society.

“This year, we will hope to see in excess of 3,500 participants competing in 27 sports,” said Vernon rep Marsha White. “You can participate in one of the 27 sports. Pick one and register any time now (the earlier the better). Some sports have playoffs.”

In 2014, the name of the Games was rebranded to the 55+ B.C. Games and North Vancouver 2015 was the first city to use the new moniker.

Step 1: Get on-line at www.55plusbcgames.org/registration

Step 2: Pick a sport and read the “Sport Rules” for participation in that sport.

Step 3: Select our Zone 5 and identify your sport coordinator.

Step 4: Contact the zone sport coordinator for registration details and time lines.

(You can also find the Registration Steps on-line.)

You will have to copy the forms and send them along with a check for registration (usually $70). Zone 5 covers the extra sports fee in most cases.

OPTIONS: Pick up a brochure at Kal Tire Place or the Rec Centre for the list of sports and Zone 5 sports coordinators. For help with the registration process, contact Vernon rep Marsha White, 250-558-1555 or marsharswhite@gmail.com
