North Okanagan Shuswap Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (NOS BJJ) had a golden weekend.
Students of coaches Mario Deveault and Hayden Francis won gold medals at events in Vancouver, Calgary and California.
In Calgary, at Mount Royal University, Lillian Marchand, nine, the youngest and lightest in her BJJ division, took on the boys, winning gold in gi and bronze in no-gi.
Rhiya Laviollette, six, also the only girl in her division, won silver with a submission with only two seconds left and down on points.
Noah Laviolette, 10, won gold in gi and silver in no-gi against competitors up to three years older and in a higher belt category.
In Vancouver, at the Musashi BJJ Tournament, Winter (10) and Elan Breget (11) competed in the same division and took home gold and silver. The Breget brothers were also competing against older and heavier boys.
In California, at the BJJ Tour competition at Azusa Pacific University, Liam Moss (17) won gold in the adult division, winning all his matches by submission
“We are very proud coaches, and could not be happier for their students who put in the time training to accomplish these wonderful results,” said Deveault.
