The skies cleared for the third race of the North Okanagan high school cross country running season Wednesday, giving 62 runners near ideal conditions with little dust or mud.
Individual race winners were Emmy Sim (4-km in 16 minutes, 34 seconds) and Thomas Hardy (5.8-km in 22:54), both from the powerful Salmon Arm Golds.
“With many schools missing runners due to We Day in Vancouver there wasn’t as many competing for team results,” said VSS Panther coach Mark Bendall, race host.
Salmon Arm claimed the junior and senior boys and senior girls titles, while the Fulton Maroons won the junior girls crown led by seventh-place Taylor Davies (23:08), eighth-place Courtney Kawalchuk (23:20) and 12th-place Rebecca Rudnisky (25:29).
Hayley Francis, in 26:57, and Ali Casanova, in 27:13, also represented the Maroons.
Mack Moody of the Pleasant Valley Saints was fourth overall in the boys’ race, in 23:50. Eamon Miller of the Seaton Sonics was 12th overall, and first in Grade 8, in 26:21.
Seth Blundell of VSS, in 26:37, and Liam McGrath of Seaton, in 26:43, were second and third in the Grade 8 class, respectively. Joey Kohut of Fulton was fourth in the same category, in 27:22.
Jenica Camalush of VSS placed fifth overall and third in the junior girls division, in 18:18, while Monika Zillinger of PVSS was 16th, in 22:15.
Lena Deschner of Seaton was second among Grade 8 girls, in 22:37, while Robyn Hesketh of the Charles Bloom Timberwolves was sixth junior, in 23:06.
