Infonews Newshounds bounced the AF Blazers 5-2 in North Okanagan Women’s Soccer Association Division 1 play Tuesday night at Marshall Field #4.

Kira Lee connected at 12 minutes with a 35-yard high finish for the Hounds, but the Blazers responded with goals from Shantell Hayhurst and Cassandra Otto.

Jasmine Whitling swiped a ball and buried a 30-yard line-drive over the Blazer keeper to level things at 2-2. Whitling pocketed the winner five minutes later with Lee assisting after a great through ball by Janessa Moore.

Lee stripped a ball and assisted Andrea Toven’s goal, while Lee worked a sweet give-and-go with Whitling before going low corner.

Centre back Mary Bennett, a midfielder with the St. Mary’s University Huskies in Halifax, was named Lady of the Match for the Newshounds.

Dr. Lee/ Squires Four secured top spot in the Masters Division with a 3-0 showdown win over TED United at Marshall Field #2.

Jacquie Hansen pulled the hat trick in the second half. Marisa Wiebe set up the first goal with a nice chip over the defensive line to a streaking Hansen.

Andi King, Lady of the Match, had a marvellous game at center half for the floss crew and after settling the ball, sent the roadrunner Hansen in for the second snipe.

The winning Hansen-King partnership clicked again when Hansen slid a shot past the keeper.

Lisa Arrotta made some key saves for her sixth straight shutout.

The back line of Irene Arrotta, Bobbi Cormier and Cindy Worth kept the speedy Salmon Arm forwards to minimal shots.

Rosters Sports Club tied VQA 1-1 at Marshall Field #4.

Karinda McGaw supplied the Rosters goal her goal after receiving a beautiful cross from Daralee Morris.

McGaw was named Lady of the Match for her hard-working, fast-paced showing. Monika Jatel battled it out in midfield against the very physical winery girls, while Kate Ball took the sportsmanship award.

VQA got their goal on a diving header off a long ball from Ginger Nickoli to Carla Gibson. Gibson was on fire and was everywhere as she continually attacked the net.

Sue Barss took up the keep position for the evening, and despite being worn out from the tourney weekend, managed some fine saves.

The formidable back-four of Tania Willett, Rita Tedesco, Karen Benn and Jenny Hatten sparkled. Benn was doing 360s while dominating with the ball.

The Controllers spotted the Courtesy Motors Sistas two early breakaway goals before rallying for a 3-2 win at Marshall #5

Mandy Frederick made a lovely cross to the far corner and Karen Zupp made a short pass in front of the net that Jessie Bicknell finished for the first Controller tally.

Zupp then scored her first goal of the season on a feed from Emma Louie, unleashing a corker from near the end line.

After the break, forwards Jessie Bicknell and Zupp and midfielder Tara Murray made a string of sweet passes that finished with Murray netting the winner from just inside the 18.

Controller keeper Michelle Embleton made a major breakaway save in the last minute.

Sistas’ Defender Diane Neudorf sent a goal kick to Liz Bariesheff-Peterson, who made a stellar pass to Andy Zubot, who buried the ball into the back of the net.

The Sistas’ second goal came after Leslie Williams gave a hard pass to Jessica Garro, who saw the opening for Diane Neudorf, who buried a low howitzer. Most Sportsmanlike Player for Courtesy Motors went to Leslie Williams.

Speedster Mel Jacobs delivered the hat trick as the Vernon Chick Kickers ambushed the host Shuswap Merlot 5-2 in Masters soccer play

After banging the post and crossbar early, Jacobs ran down a laser feed and scored from Game MVP and gritty midfielder Sharon Storms. Jen Kemper placed a ball through to Michelle Loxam who buried a blast to the short side.

The Merlot crew soon levelled things at 2-2 before Jacobs zig-zagged through a bunch of defenders and deked the keeper for her nicest snipe of the year Tuesday night.

The Chicks pressed harder in the final 40 with super fast Joanne Lockhart moving up to forward and connecting on a great give and go with Loxam, who dished to Jacobs for her hatty.

Jacobs capped off her big night with another blitz down the right side, receiving a pass from her twin sister Holly Flinkman and putting a gorgeous ball to the foot of a wide open Kemper to complete the scoring.

Substitute ever-smiling keeper Colline Johnson was superb for the Chicks.

The Gray Monk/Longhorn Pub and the Shuswap Ka0s ran to a scoreless draw at Marshall #3.

Central midfielder Shelinda Morin took MVP for the Longhorn, winning loose balls and sending in crosses for at least six scoring chances.

Former calendar girls Denise Bourdon and Char McNaught were stellar up front for Gray Monk, while speedy Stacey Cover played left back and made multiple runs up the flank.
