Two goals from Keefer Kaempf propelled the Vernon Talon Benefits Thrashers to a 4-3 win over the Winfield Bruins in North Okanagan Midget Super Hockey League action.

Chris Niehusmann added 1+1 and Brendan Horsfield rounded out the Thrashers’ scoring, while Jaden Steinke, Braydie Allan and Dakota Becker added assists.

The first-place Thrashers are 9-0-4, the Bruins 6-7.

The Lumby Pee Wee Stars, sponsored by Bannister GM and Irly Bird Building Centers, finished off 2016 with a 6-4 win New Year’s Eve over the Vernon Hurricanes at Priest Valley Arena.

Bryden Murray led the Stars with three goals and an assist. Quintin O’Neill supplied 2 + 1 and Faith Seehaver added a single. Garrett Louis, Galileo Ingram both supplied a single assist with Ryder Quibell earning two helpers.

James Wraight had the win between the pipes. Great hustle and hard work were shown by Jack Laventure, Zachary Young, Jace Catt and Tori Maltman, and bustling back-checking by Mia Maltman.

Meanwhile, the 10-team Vernon Pee Wee Recreational Hockey Tournament opens today at 4 p.m. (Civic Arena) with the Scotiabank Bears of Vernon taking on the Kelowna Gators.

The Vernon Bannister GM Blazers meet the Summerland Jets at 4 p.m. at Priest Valley Arena, while the Vernon Sladen Moore Hurricanes battle the Penticton Rams at 5:45 p.m. at Civic.

The Butcher Boys Devils of Vernon tangle with the Nakusp Falcons at 5:45 at Priest Valley.

The Langley Eagles go up against the Vancouver Thunder Unicorns tonight at 7:30 at Civic.

The A side championship final is scheduled for Sunday, 1 p.m., at Civic Arena.
