Kelowna duo takes Baron title

The Kelowna duo of Andrea Zana and Catherine Buchanan carded a 2-over 76 to win the 28th annual Baron Insurance Ladies Open Saturday at the Vernon Golf & Country Club.

There was a field of 54 teams in the two-ball tournament, including teams from Victoria, Vancouver, Kamloops and throughout the Okanagan.

Hole-in-one prizes of a new car from Bannister Honda on No. 3 and $10,000 cash from Intact Isurance on the 17th hole went unclaimed.

Diane Madden of Predator Ridge and Laurie Arthur of Spallumcheen took the low net title at 59. Both the low gross and low net champions took home coin sets.

Wilma DeJong and Trudi Hyde of Rivershore in Kamloops finished second low gross at 77 on a countback over Melanie Grant and Rhonda Poullos of Kelowna/Okanagan Club.

Fourth low gross went to Gail Fairburn of Vernon and Shaun Pulice of Fraserview in Vancouver by retrogression at 79.

Maureen Turner of Predator Ridge and Eileen Salis of Kelowna placed fifth low gross at 79 by countback with Linda Gronsdahl and Dani Sheehan of Kelowna sixth with 79.

Runner-up in low net went to Nancy Gray and  Linda McCann of Salmon Arm, while Anita Jewell and Suzanne Hoecevar of Vernon took third low net at 61.

Vernon’s Lynn Webster and Pixie Fifer pocketed fourth low net at 62 on a countback over clubmates Karen Hassard and Karen Kindrachuk.

Closest-to-the-pin prizes went to Dani Sheehan of Kelowna on the third ho,le, Mary Bermudez of Two Eagles in Kamloops on No. 5, Trudi Hyde of Rivershore on the 14th and Mona Scholes of Vernon at the 17th.
