Kelowna Rockets wrap up five-day training camp

Kelowna Rockets training camp wrapped up Sept. 1 with two inter-squad games. 

The third-place contest between Team Gorges and Team Schenn ended tied 2-2 and went to overtime. Michael Cicek scored the overtime winner on a penalty shot.

The championship game featured Team McLean and Team Weber. Henry Duesing started the scoring on a pass from Andrew Cristall. Team Weber would score the next three goals. Team McLean responded with a pair of goals from Colton Lien and Jake DeMone, but Cristall netted his second of the afternoon to regain the three-goal lead. 

Team McLean’s Ethan Mittelsteadt scored twice, and Max Graham chipped in with a goal to even the score. Rowan Guest made it 6-5 late in the game, and Cristall put it away with an empty net goal for a 7-5 final.

The Rockets have reduced their training camp roster to 32 players, including four goaltenders, 10 defencemen and 19 forwards.

Kelowna start the pre-season on the road against the Kamloops Blazers at the Sandman Centre on Friday, Sept. 6. Kelowna hosts the Blazers on Sept. 7. The Rockets wrap up the pre-season with a home-and-home with the Vancouver Giants.
