Outgoing captain Layne Greene was a double winner as the North Okanagan Knights honoured their finest Saturday afternoon in Armstrong.
The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League team chose the 20-year-old Vernon product as their MVP and Best Defenceman at their year-end banquet.
Greene led by example hustle, desire and grit and pocketed five goals and 22 points. He and alternate captains Jack Berger and Drayton Martin were recognized as Knights of the Round Table.
Forward Carl Main was selected as Uusung Hero. The Vernon minor hockey grad rang up six goals, 11 points and 83 penalty minutes.
Levi Harris of Oliver was Most Improved Player, while Logan Morris of Prince George and Luke Harvie of Lethbridge shared the Top Academic award.
The Knights were swept by the Osoyoos Coyotes in Round 1 of the playoffs.. Their entire roster, except Greene, is eligible to return next season.
Meanwhile, Vernon’s Brett Jewell had 1+1 as the Merritt Centennials upended the West Kelowna Warriors 6-5 in Round 1-opening B.C. Hockey League playoff action before 1,124 fans Friday night at Royal LePage Place.
The Warriors announced they would be staying in West Kelowna and not moving to Delta, as proposed a month ago. Quinn Foreman earned 2+2 for the Warriors.
Luke Santerno pocketed 1+2 as the Trail Smoke Eaters dispatched the Salmon Arm Silverbacks 4-2 before 2,014 fans at Cominco Arena.
