Kodiaks rally past Legends

Kelowna Kodiaks scored four unanswered goals in the final 13 minutes to beat the North Okanagan Super 8 Legends 6-4 in Thompson Okanagan Midget B Lacrosse League play Monday night at the Priest Valley Arena.

Speedsters Sean Howard, with his second goal of the night, and Sam Knox on a breakaway  snapped a 2-2 tie with goals a minute apart early in the third period for the Legends, who had lost three previous meetings to the Kodiaks by a combined 21-3 margin.

Brayden King had the other goal for North Okanagan who led three times Monday.

Troy Cuzzetto returned from illness and was solid in goal for the Legends, who went to Penticton Saturday and split a league doubleheader.

North Okanagan took the first game, 10-7, with rookie Michael Jmio leading the way with his first-ever hat trick.

Howard and Jacob Brewer added two goals each for the Legends, who outscored the Heat 5-2 in the final period.

Single markers went to Drayden Harshenin, Griffin Evans and Knox.

Caedon Bellmann, a forward playing goalie with Cuzzetto absent, was sensational in the crease for the Legends.

Penticton jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the nightcap and went on to post a 10-5 decision.

Nathaniel Foster scored twice for North Okanagan, once on the powerplay and once shorthanded. Liam Cyr also scored twice and Brewer added the final goal.

Bellmann made a number of great saves as he donned the goalie gear for a second straight game.

North Okanagan is 5-4 in league play, 8-11 overall, and played 18 of their 19 games in May.

Sun Valley Source for Sports Legends were on fire against Kamloops #2 in a 7-1 win in  tyke lacrosse.

Wyatt Stowards shone with his three goals, while Oliver Maleska scored two.

“(We) played a high scoring game against Kamloops,” said coach Sarah Lyster.

Singles went to Eva Williams and Aaron Teichrob. Goalie Cohen Bailey was commended by Lyster

“Awesome job in net,” she said.

The Legends lost their mojo 7-2 to Kelowna in other action.

Goals came from Connor Johnson.

“A good battle for the team. The players ran fast and gave it their all,” said coach Lyster.
