The Kokanee Swim Club turned in several excellent showings at their recent home meet at the Vernon Aquatic Centre.

New head coach Tyson Wellock singled out Mackenna Parmar, Conrad Screen, Georgia Shortt and Charles Johnson, who all qualified to compete in Invitational Meets based on their performance in the 200 IM at the Sunday Jamboree.

Angel Loseth swam her first 800 freestyle and was amazing, winning her age group. while Edourad Lemay, Brandon Phillips and Zach Sholdice all swam under 30 seconds for the first time in the 50 free.

Kristin Hoivik was outstanding throughout the meet, including wins in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, while Andrew Mcwhinney had breakthrough performances in all of his events.

Samantha Shortt and Kelsey Fillion each had awesome meets.

Fillion won five events, including an awesome 100 free and a great 200 IM. Shortt ruled three events, led by a fantastic 100 butterfly.

Gavin Johnson took the 200 backstroke and the 100 and 200 breaststroke.

“The meet ran very well and the volunteers did a fantastic job,” said Wellock. “Many of the visiting coaches and families went out of their way to find Kokanee coaches and volunteers and pass along compliments about how well the meet was organized.”

The Kokanees are in the Kelowna Aquajets meet this weekend and are also stoked about the big Kamloops Ice Classic in December.

Wellock was previously coaching in the U.S.
