Vernon’s Conner Kozak finished in a three-way tie for second place at the Association of Independent Institutions (AII) Conference Men’s Golf Championships Monday in Prescott, Ariz.
Kozak, a freshman at the University of B.C., was in a six-way tie for first at an even par 213 (70-69-74) after three rounds, helping the Thunderbirds secure third in team play at 867 (285-287-295) at Antelope Hills Golf Course.
The University of Victoria Vikings defended their title with a first-place score of 857 (291-277-289), followed by California State University-San Marcos in second with 858 (281-284-293).
UVic’s Carson Kallis took the individual competition by winning a playoff.
The Vikes receive a berth in the 61st annual NAIA championships, May 22-25 at the Creekside Country Club in Salem, Ore.
Meanwhile, North Okanagan pros Myles Johnson of Spall and Jesse Crowe of Canoe Creek teamed up to win the Callaway Interior PGA team event Monday at Osoyoos Golf Course.
The duo claimed victory after seven playoff holes, outlasting the tandem of Stephen Connor and Mark Kitts.
Crowe and Johnson, who pocketed $400 apiece, compiled a 63 in regulation, including nine birdies and one bogey. They birdied five of the seven playoff holes, including a 30-footer by Crowe on the first playoff hole to keep them alive.
Tye Babkirk and Greg Machtaler, Brodie Carle and Dean Claggett, and Andrew Goncalves and Patrick Martin finished in a three-way tie for third.
