Fun and friendship will be at the forefront when the 65th annual Silver Star Bonspiel starts Friday at the Vernon Curling Club.
The event, hosted by the Hi-Pro Sportswear Wednesday night women’s league, includes an auction, in which any of the ladies teams in the Vernon club can donate items.
“All proceeds go to the bonpsiel enabling us to offer extra perks to the participants which certainly goes to making our event the success it is, and thus, the longevity of the event,” said Gail Powls, league president.
Over the years, the bonspiel has hosted some talented curlers, including the Swiss junior women’s national team, as well as the Korean and Japanese national women’s rinks. Teams participate from all over the Thompson Okanagan, with many out-of-town foursomes making it an annual event.
There will be a soup/chili kitchen Friday night, with a continental breakfast Saturday morning, and of course, a banquet that night. There will be music and entertainment both nights.
Teams can get in on the fun by entering an entertainment/ skit contest and costume contest for prizes.
“Somewhere in all of this, we do curl,” laughed Powls.
