Vernon’s Curtis Lazar scored his 18th goal of the season as the Edmonton Oil Kings grounded the host Medicine Hat Tigers 4-2 in WHL action Friday night before 4,000 fans.
Mark Pysyk, Henrik Samuelsson and Michael St. Croix, with his 44th, completed the Edmonton offence in front of Laurent Brossoit. Boston Leier replied for the Tigers.
The Oil Kings lead the WHL at 49-15-3-4. Medicine Hat shares third spot in the Eastern Conference with the Calgary Hitmen, at 42-24-2-3.
Meanwhile, the Kelowna Rockets blew a two-goal lead and bowed 5-4, in overtime, to the Vancouver Giants before 12,700 fans at the Pacific Coliseum.
Jordan Martinook completed his hat trick, at 1:05 of overtime, to hit the 40-goal mark. Cain Franson and Brendan Gallagher also scored for the Giants, who clinched fourth place in the West, thanks to Seattle Thunderbirds’ 4-3 upset of the Spokane Chiefs.
Brett Bulmer, Zach Franko, Tyson Baillie and Damon Severson countered for the sixth-place Rockets.
