Maddy Laranjo started four times and scored twice in 10 conference games as a freshman midifleder with the UBCO Heat last university season.

She’s having a blast ringing up goals for the Infonews.ca Newshounds of the North Okanagan Women’s Soccer Association first division. Laranjo pulled the hat trick, giving her five tallies in a week, as the Hounds dispatched Do Itt Drywall 5-0 Tuesday night at MacDonald Park.

Jasmine Whitling and Kira Lee also counted goals for the Hounds (8-0). Lee Richardson and Andrea Toren shared the shutout.

Becky Summerfelt, at sweeper, and Janessa Moore, in central midfield, worked hard to advance the ball for the 2-5-2 Drywallers, and by the second half, the shots on goal were more evenly matched. Newcomer Kristina Meier was solid in goal.

The North Enderby Celtics and the AF Blazers battled to a 2-2 draw in other first division play at Mac Park.

The Blazers’ Michelle Smith scored near the 44th minute after Celtic keeper Meghan Rydde recorded several huge saves.

Madison Catt of the 0-6-3 Blazers found a loose ball and hammered it past Rydde about 15 minutes into the final half.

Just five minutes later, a Celtics corner was flicked on by Rydde to find a streaking Sarah Ehman on the far post for an easy tap in.

With 10 minutes left, Lindsay Bolduc found Casey Benz for a blistering shot which left a rebound cleared by the Blazers but intercepted by Jamie Dillon, who smashed a 25-yarder roof daddy for the tie. The Celtics are 3-2-3.

The Gray Monk/Longhorn Impact maintained top spot in the Masters group by brushing back Rosters Sports Club 4-0 at Marshall Field #3.

Myra McEwan and Janelle Smithson combined to feed Reagan Russell, who converted a low drive just inside the 18 for the winner.

Russell took a nifty pass from Jodi Hawthorne and riverdanced around the defence to make it 2-0 before the break.

Lou Sheehan deked past two defenders for further insurance, while Russell completed the hat trick by beating a few defenders and finishing low in the corner.

Katie Reid took a nice chip shot over Impack keeper Derri Ann Cooper, who nicely tipped the ball away for a corner. The Impact got dynamic defence from Chris Fraser, Suzie Andrews and Vel Beaumont.

The Impact (7-1-1) chose Rosters keeper Felicia Musa as the Most Sportsmanlike Player. Rosters dropped to 0-8.

Vernon Square Liquor Store VQA and the Controllers ran to a 2-2 draw at Marshall #4.

Angie Mendes supplied both goals for VQA as she tries to keep up with sister Ginger Nickoli, connecting at 24 and 37 minutes. Sue Barss was solid as keeper.

VQA stayed in the Controllers half most of the opening 45 with help from the wind. Sheila Westwell provided the assist for Mendes’ second goal.

Dynamic defensive player Lindsay Smith worked hard to keep the VQA zone clear, while Carly Bibby and Carla Gibson worked the front with marvellous touch.

VQA had several opportunities to put things out of reach but Controllers goalie Michelle Embleton recorded multiple stops from close range.

Amy Shupe started the Controllers’ comeback in the 48th minute after receiving a long pass off a free kick from Michelle Wernicke. Shupe went one-v-one and cut to the outside of the defender and buried a corker top shelf.

That goal energized the Controllers, who enjoyed a few great chances and were whistled for a few offsides before the 79th minute when Christyna Whieldon delivered a slick pass to Wanda Vanderveen, who sent it through the middle to a streaking Amy Shupe, who outraced a defender, drew Barss to her left and finished a gorgeous shot low to the right corner.

Jessie Bicknell, Tara Murray, Angela Durfeld and Whieldon worked the middle well with relentless pressure and the back end of Mandy Fredrick, Wernicke, Maritza Mcleod and Karen Zupp cleared rebounds and transitioned the ball up the field with precision. Embleton was the Red Robin Lady of the Match.

“I am very proud of the way the ladies played with determination, never quit and their work ethic,” said Controller coach Darren Zupp. “It’s always fun to play VQA as its back and forth and non-stop action.

Dr. Lee Dental Centre moved past VQA into fourth place with a 7-1 romp over Courtesy Motors Sistas at Marshall #5.

The floss crew spread the scoring around evenly with Jenn Matsuda going low after a pass by Julie Bolin for the first goal. Barb Levesque dropped a pass to Irene Arrotta for a beauty shot over keeper Wendy Nadeau from just outside the 18 for the eventual winner.

Amanda Bolton converted on a PK, awarded after Arrotta was pulled down just before the recess. Bolin switched the ball wide to Erin Scott, who carried the ball down the flank and made it 4-0 at the half.

Bolin connected on a fray in front, while Lori Shepherd found open space to score on a pass from Jacquie Hansen. Rhonda Thomas, in her debut, poked a sweet shot over Nadeau for the final snipe. Nadeau was chosen MVP by Dr. Lee.

Captain and birthday girl (49ish) Andrea Zubot scored for Courtesy Motors (0-5-1) off a nice set up by Sherri MacDonald.

The Shuswap Kaos upset the shorthanded third-place Chick Kickers 3-0 in Salmon Arm.

The Kickers (5-3) started with nine ladies on the field and a 10th showed up at 20 minutes but it was already 2-0. The Kaos are 3-5.
