The Fulton Maroons brushed back the Kalamalka Lakers 24-12 in North Zone Senior Boys Rugby League action Monday afternoon at Grahame Park.

Carl Main, Jeff Han, Satchel McDermid and Kolden Oakden recorded tries for the Maroons. Han also supplied a pair of conversions.

Fulton head coach Graysen Marsh was stoked with his crew’s grit and moxy.

“With one sub and the Okanagan heat, it was a grind for my guys,” said Marsh. “They should be proud of themselves. It’s been a very long time since I’ve seen a team dig deep like they have in the past two games.”

Meanwhile, the Vernon Jackals jolted the host Salmon Arm Manthers 41-5 in Interior Rugby Union play Saturday.

It was tough going early as the physical Manthers played solid goal-line defence then  broke a run to take the early lead.

The young Jackals bounced back led by a determined forward pack, getting tries from Lucas Hofer and New Zealand import Jed Miller and went into half time with a 12-5 lead.

The second half had Vernon scoring in bunches with tries and big gains by Taylor (Swifty)McKnight and fellow newcomer Zimbabwe Matt Swannack.

In the end, fitness and numbers were too much for the Manthers.

Vernon (2-0) has a bye this week and then host the Merritt Barbarians Saturday, May 14.
